    Though the Breen office greatly impaired the art of American filmmaking it was possible to adhere to their specific revisions without completely compromising the integrity of the project.

    Producer Wald was matchless in his talent for keeping Breen at bay while adapting Mildred Pierce in such a way that the story still shocks for its cynical view of the American family and the national obsession with success at all costs.
